Eats and treats for dogs have now gone upscale. A few years back I would have laughed outright at the thought of a bakery exclusively for dogs. Now I have a pet and my thinking has naturally undergone a change. I now think it’s cool!
It was our pet Labrador, Misty’s, birthday a few days back and we were wondering just what on earth we could safely give her as a cake or treat for the occasion. So you can imagine our delight when we heard from a friend that there actually was such a place in Bangalore.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Rocky Dog bakery, the bakery for your Rockstar pets, as their website banner proclaims! They have a website and the address is www.rockydogbakery.com. The place is located in Jeevan Bhima Nagar and is the initiative of two sisters, , who named it after their pet, black Labrador, Rocky.
Their idea, born out of their pet’s fondness for the local bakeries goodies, was to provide alternatives for the commercially available products which naturally contain preservatives, additives and unhealthy ingredients, that are not exactly pet friendly.
The prices are a little on the higher side, but not unreasonable considering that all the ingredients, like peanut buter, cinnamon, flaxseeds, sage and honey, amongst many others, are all 100% , natural, human human-grade ingredients. In other words, the focus of the bakery is to provide treats for dogs without sugar, salt, cocoa, fillers, artificial flavours or preservatives. Besides, they also have a home delivery service which is a bonus, since it takes the nuisance value of fetching the goodies yourself out of the equation!
They have all kinds of cakes, cup cakes, muffins, cookies and shorteats for dogs. We ordered a banana cake for the occasion. Misty just loves bananas and we played safe in case she didn’t like anything else. We were right! It came shaped like a paw and she absolutely loved it and the bone shaped cookies that they had thrown in as a complimentary. We were also very touched by the handcrafted frame, with a collage of Misty’s photo’s, that they gave us as a memento.
All you pet lovers out there……. the place is definitely worth a visit and trial. Given the number of pets in Bangalore, which at the last count numbered in excess of 1,40,000, I see quite a market for such initiatives. The only issue is publicity, since very few people would be aware of such places and momentum must initially be generated necessarily by word of mouth. THIS is a satisfied customer speaking! Now, it’s up to you to go and get it!
